Clothing Essentials

Layering is key on Kilimanjaro. Temperatures vary from hot at the base to freezing at the summit.

  • Base layers (thermal tops and bottoms)
  • Lightweight trekking shirts (long and short sleeve)
  • Fleece jacket or warm mid-layer
  • Insulated down jacket (for summit night)
  • Waterproof and windproof jacket and pants
  • Comfortable trekking pants
  • Warm hat, gloves, and scarf/buff
  • Sun hat or cap

Footwear

Your feet will carry you to the summit — treat them well.
